Jessie James had a moderately successful debut album. Wanted, a song that was on the album made it to the Top 40 singles chart. But while Decker has always believed she was an artist from the country scene, her album was made and promoted using a popular audience in mind. Decker, who had been disappointed by two further singles from the album, challenged against the management of the record label for more influence. Decker then released her second single Boys in the Summer which was more traditional. Decker's album was titled Daughter of a Gypsy (or Sweet American Dreams), was dropped by Mercury after two singles did not chart on the chart for country.
