Nadia and Carol

Nadia Comaneci (Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej Now Onesti) Romanian Gymnast born on November 12, 1961. She was the first Romanian to receive a score of 10 for the Olympic competition. Bela Karalyi was introduced to Comaneci at the age of six. She would later be Romania's gymnastics coach. Comaneci competed for the first time at the national junior championships. She finished 13th. The following year she won the title of champion. In her very first international competition in 1972, she came out on top by winning three gold awards. When she competed for the first time as a senior athlete in the year 1975, she beat out Russian Lyudmila Turishcheva the five-time European champion, winning 4 gold medals as well as one silver. In 1976, she became the first female athlete in the world to use a backwards-double salto to dismount from the parallel bars. Carol Marie Wayne born 6 September 1942 in Chicago Illinois US. Carol was a professional in the world of entertainment when she was a teenager. Her career began with her joining Nina Wayne to perform in Ice Capades, a traveling spectacle of entertainment. These shows included skaters who were performed to music from the stage.
